The vocabulary of a booking made around a late flight

Short definitions for the terms that come up between a message written in a baggage hall and a door closing again before the alarm, set down the way the house uses them.

  • Outcall

Outcall means the therapist travels to the room you are staying in, beside the airport or in the city, because the house keeps no premises of its own.

  • Overnight

An overnight is eight hours booked as one block, at a single fixed fee, with its start agreed around your landing or your departure.

  • Arrival Window

The arrival window is the forty to sixty minutes in which a therapist reaches a central Amsterdam room after confirmation; airport rooms are arranged instead.

  • Deposit

A deposit is half the fee, confirmed before she sets out. Every booking at a room near Schiphol carries one, and so do six other kinds of booking.

  • Cancellation and Refunds

What is kept when a booking is cancelled depends only on how much notice you give: the whole deposit back, half of it back, or none once she has set out.

  • False Bookings

A false booking is one made under someone else’s name or number, or as a joke, or a no-show that follows one of those. A missed session alone is not one.

  • Twenty-One or Over

Every guest who books, and anyone else present, must be twenty-one or over. A photo document may be asked for at the door, and a passport is fine for that.

  • Red-Eye

A red-eye is an overnight flight that lands in the early morning. At Schiphol it means a day to fill before check-in and a body that barely slept.

  • Landside

Landside is the public side of an airport, before security and passport control. Every airport booking is to a room landside; nothing reaches airside.

  • Journey Time

Journey time is how long she needs to reach a room at Schiphol, Schiphol-Rijk or Schiphol-Oost. It is agreed with you first, and the start is fixed after.

  • Night Desk

The night desk is a hotel reception after midnight, often one person and a locked door. Telling it at check-in that you expect a visitor saves time later.

  • Body Clock

The body clock is the rhythm that sets when you feel sleepy or alert. After a long flight it runs on the old time zone and shifts about an hour a day.

  • Balance at the Door

The balance is the half of the fee that was not paid ahead. It is settled at the door when she arrives, in euro or in another major currency by agreement.
